Torah Mantle in Full Colour

There was no sign of traditional maroon or blue velvet when Harlow Jewish Community’s rabbi unveiled a new Torah mantle. Blues, reds and golds representing a sunset through a lattice-work cover the stunning piece of artwork. It was designed, hand-painted and sewn by Buckinghamshire artist YuditCollard-Treml.

Rabbi Shillor, who commissioned the design for the scroll which belongs to her, said:

“The book of Exodus commands us to decorate the scroll in fine materials with reds, goldsand blues so I took that as the starting point. It’s absolutely fantastic, just how I envisioned it. It’s a beautiful addition to our community and I’m sure it will delight us for years to come.”

The community dedicated the mantle at a special Shabbat service last week.
