Harlow's New Curtain

Inspired by the beautiful ark curtain created for their twin community in the former Soviet Union, members of Harlow Jewish Community decided to give their own curtain a facelift.

Project leader Kuzna Jackson said: “We designed a curtain for Yevpatoria last year, made up of 15 blue silk panels with embroidery, paints and collage.

“But then we decided our own curtain looked rather tired, so we’ve been sewing on sequins and beads to give it some much needed sparkle.”

The sequins came from congregant Irene Steinberg who used to own Kays in Stoke Newington where she sold exclusive dresses and made alterations to gowns. When she retired she kept many of the accessories for the outfits.
